I read lot good opinions about Bob Reeves mouthpieces, especially 43.5/HF but they are quite expensive. I am wonder how 43.5/HF is really different than Wick 4F? _________________ cornet - Olds Ambassador,

I play a Reeves 43FE which is not as deep as his HF series. If you don't sound like a flugel on the HF series (or, really, even the FE series) then the issue is you, the horn or both. |
I tried the FE and thought it played well but I didn't find it different enough from my Yamaha 14F4 to warrant keeping it. My friend's HF was impressive enough that I'm determined to get one eventually. Probably stick with the Yamaha for section work and use the Reeves for soloing. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

I think quite important update - I play just solo for self recordings, I am not playing with sections. _________________ cornet - Olds Ambassador,

On my flugels, the Curry pieces play much "darker" and fluffier, with softer articulations, than the Reeves pieces. I own Curry FL and FLD cups, and Reeves HF and EF cups. The Reeves pieces play with a more centered sound with more core and better articulation, with a bit of pop to the articulations still. The Curry pieces play very rich, fluffy, and diffuse, with a bit more troublesome intonation, and much softer articulations.
This is just my experience. My partner always says she prefers the Curry sound because they are so rich and fluffy, but I find the Reeves to be more reliable on the gig as I think they will project a bit better. I played the Reeves for a time, but I'm back on the Currys for now as I think you really can't beat the tone. _________________ Yamaha 8310Z trumpet

I'm trying to make an order Flip Oakes mouthpiece on the official website:
https://flipoakes.com/prices-ordering/
I'm not sure that their website is working, cause I didn't get any response from them. Any body know, how to get Flip Oakes mouthpiece? Any dealers? _________________ cornet - Olds Ambassador,

RichieBill,
I would give Flip a call +1 760-643-1501 or email him @ flip@flipoakes.com
When I purchased my flugehorn, Flip sold me a standard and an extreme mouthpiece for it. I am so happy that I have both of these pieces. They are absolutely wonderful. I would not want to live without either one. If you're going to purchase a mouthpiece and pay for shipping, I would have him include both. You will thank me later my friend. Let us know what you end up getting. Flip is a lovely gentleman to deal with.
Just to show you how much I loved his extreme mouthpiece, I also purchased one for my trumpet and cornet.
I wish you the best my friend.

Hello 1957Tim
Yesterday I got Flip Oakes XFL1 Extreme mouthpiece for my B&H flugelhorn. Today I've tried them.
OMG!!! What a sound! I love it!
It's absolutely phenomenal and really flugelhornish. This is the sound which I looked for in my flug. I compared Flip mouthpiece with my Wick 2F which still I like but difference between Flip mouthpiece and Wick is dramaticly huge. I love this fluffy sound of Flip 1X.
You had right - Flip Oakes is really nice and patient gentleman in communication.
Thank you so much again for your recommendation, which was really worth money and time.
All the best for you Tim _________________ cornet - Olds Ambassador,
