It's 2016...other message board types like reddit have upvote and downvote buttons for thread titles and responses...why can't TH get with the times?

Short answer: it is a board run by volunteers who receive no compensation or reimbursement for their work.

Your question is legit, and others similar have come up from time to time. Perhaps a more far-reaching question (with a poll attached?) is "Would TH members be willing to make a contribution to upgrade the board software?"

Not trying to be callous, but serious question - does TH think they are the only website or message board in the history of the internet that has ever operated with limited cash assets and mostly under goodwill of it's operators? Second question - what kind of money, times or skills would be needed to install such a feature and why can't something like gofundme be utilized to raise assets?

Actual website maintenance is by one guy, the sysadmin, and has a full-time job on top of gigs, teaching, and various other hobbies.

I used to think I'd have all kinds of free time for fun hobbies and such but working 60 ~ 70 hours/week on average and raising a couple of boys plus gigging now and then really takes it out of ya'...

While I do understand that many people love it, I personally don't see much need to add up and down voting.

One of the reasons I like this forum is that it's not cluttered with stuff like "likes" and "dislikes". I think such triviality is largely a waste of time, especially when the directions of the thumbs become a primary reason for posting.
