For those of you with experience with Schilke Ebs...

I understand that the Schilke Eb cornet shares the same leadpipe with the P5-4 piccolo trumpet. Does anyone use any of the aftermarket leadpipes (Osmun, Najoom, etc) available for the P5-4 on the Eb cornet?

That may be the way to solve my disliking of the Schilke...

All I want is an instrument that sounds fantastic and plays well in tune. The Schilke has a nice sound, the Besson Sovereign has a great sound, the Getzen sound is very good - only the Blackburn so far has the combination - if only I had the finances!

Having been around brass bands for 26 years I have seen a lot of soprano designs come and go.

One of the best was the old Imperial.
For some reason B + H kept redesigning their Sovereign model and making it worse each time.
if theyu would just resurrect the Imperial design (they made other models based on the same design) they could make a decent one at a decent price.
I know a guy who has one and a Yamaha.
He sounds much better on the scabby old Imperial.
Its not nearly as shrill a sound.

Thats my opinion and I am sticking to it!

I'd forgotten about the Imp sop - that was the first sop I ever played. This might explain why I like the higher pitch instruments!
I suppose this is one more instrument to add to the wish list, probably behind the Blackburn, but it will go on the list!

Great to hear the praise about the old Imperial. I recently got an old '48 Imperial and was not sure if it would be wise to invest some money in getting it to the shop to remove the 3 major dent it has on the sheapard's crook.

Unfortunatelly, I never had the chance in comparing the Imperial to another soprano. So I only can go by your impressions and experiences with the Imperial.

"I'd forgotten about the Imp sop - that was the first sop I ever played."

thats funny, it was the first sop i played as well. i have a yamie at the moment (not that it sees the light of day much!) the imp is much better nicer sound. the valves on the yamie are crap there so tight if you use a thick oil on them they stick! they soon loosend up when i got the brasso out!!!!! .

ive just discovered why my imperial flugel is so out of tune, its converted from high pitch. its not helped that the third slide is a quartertone flat, d is perfect but Ab is a bugger!

have fun, sam

My wife has an old Imperial Fluegelhorn too. The low C is way out of tune. Needs all the lipping up it can get to get anywhere near close.
