I use a 3B for BBB section stuff, but have found that after about a half-hour to an hour or so the range beyond C just goes away. Any thoughts on the Wick 5B? I'll probably use the smaller piece for non-BBB stuff like Clarke solos, etc. Thoughts? _________________ Cogito, ergo sum |

The 5B does have a smaller throat which might help your range on your XL bore cornet - however the 5 rim is really pretty small. Your Olds has about a .468 valve bore - for me most of the BB mouthpieces seem to work better on .460 or .464 bore cornets. Why not try a Yamaha 14E before you try to stuff your lips in a much smaller mpc. The 14E has a 3.98 throat compared to your 4.47 on the Wicks and might make playing easier on the Olds. The rim diameter would be a lot closer to your 3. |
