I have about 15 Strads scattered all the way back to #567. The one I feel best in (at this time-subject to change) is a 37G #475XXX, which is also the newest I have.

I'd suggest that you set aside any preconceived notions and decide for yourself. Mine is from the early 80s and seems fine. Didn't buy it new, but all I have mechanically done to it is get a set of stronger valve springs.

My 117xxx is excellent. I think that number puts its manufacture around 1971.

5313xx seems to be one of the great ones. I still disagree with the ideas that the older ones are better than the newer ones. Newer ones are more consistant because of the new modern techniques used in the production.

Flame On!

Well, I have a Bach that plays very well, 40817. Good valves with very good compression. Has the same sound as the Bachs and the Bach clones I've played (Sonare, Holton). Way different than the more lively Benge horns. I like playing them both. Different sound, different use. All good horns. By the way, 40817 is a Mercedes.

Complete coincidence, I'm sure, but Mr. "Yep-OK" has a Bach for sale after six scintillating posts.

Pick up six of them, with sequential serial numbers. They'll all play differently. Kind of pointless.
