...for a Bach Strad 180-37S. Thumbs up or thumbs down? What are the advantages and disadvantages?
Best Regards.

I played on one for many years (before developing my own model of slide). You just have to try one to see if you like it. I think on the downside they can sometimes be a little too flexible pitch-wise. But sometimes that's good. It really depends what you're after.

I have a reverse-rounded tuning slide for my model 43 and it does indeed give you just that little bit more of openess and flexibility needed in certain styles of music. I still inter-change it with my stock shape slide when I need that little bit more to slot and lean into. _________________ Jay S.

Hey man I have a Bach rounded tuning slide in raw brass I want to sell. $95.00 it is almost new. I only used it a few times. |

I think it depends on the horn and the player. I friend of mine tried one on his Bach and his sound was immediatley more open, resonant, and beautiful. For me on my old Bach as well as the F. Besson Classic, the rounded slides did not work as well as the square one. It was too open, sound seemed hollow and less colorful...especially on the Besson which was a large bore.
You should try them yourself. I'm not sure but you could probably get one on trial from Woodwind Brasswind.
Or there is also a guy named Dave (who seems rather modest from his earlier post) who makes "Mt. Vernon like" slides which are in between the totally rounded and totally square. These look like a great idea to me. http://www.electrotheremin.com/myslide.html
Blackburn will make you a custom slide as well.
