I recently started doing the Louis Davidson routine, out of his "Trumpet Techniques" book. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with this or knew anything about it. |

You should get in touch with Ronald Modell. He is Mr. Davidson's cousin, I think , and used his books. I think he's still alive and well. |

Also look for a publication of his (out-of-print, I think, but probably available in some music libraries) called "Trumpet Profiles". It's a unique survey of the equipment, practice habits, and perspectives of many, many great trumpeters, (incl. Herseth, Dokshitzer, Andre, etc.). Mr. Davidson is a great example of someone with an esteemed performance career who embraced his second career as a scholar/pedagogue.

It's back in print (as well as his other book) and available from Robert King music. Both very excellent books, indeed!

Hi guys, just a note that all of Louis Davidsons' books are coming back at qPress! So far, Trumpet Techniques, Trumpet Profiles, and his 4 trumpet Bach Little Fugue are available with more to come.
"Trumpet Techniques" is right here, foreword by Dokshizer, endorsed by Herseth, Marsalis, Adelstein, and many more. Gotta see it.
"Trumpet Profiles" is here, with handwritten contributions from an insane list of the world's best players, like Timofei Dokshitzer, Cat Anderson, Maurice Andre, Bernard Adelstein, Doc Severinsen, Bud Brisbois, Dizzy Gillespie, Adolph Herseth, Maynard Ferguson, Robert Nagel, Armando Ghitalla, Lew Soloff, Jimmy Maxwell, Ray Crisara, John Audino, Ray Copeland, Louis Davidson, Pee Wee Erwin, Harry Glantz, Bernie Glow, Bobby Hackett, Knud Hovaldt, Don Jacoby, Mannie Klein, Sam Krauss, Jimmy McPartland, AI Porcino, Gerard Schwarz, Marvin Stamm, Clark Terry, William Vacchiano, Roger Voisin, Johnny Ware. _________________ Check out qPress for the largest selection of trumpet books on the internet. |

"Trumpet Techniques" is such an under rated book! It appears very "Schlossberg-like" (as Davidson studied with him) but it is meticulously organized. You cannot help but to improve by working through this book in a consistent manner...Bernie Adelstein swore by it...he studied with Davidson... |
