Had a lesson at 11AM EST with Jerry and had the joy to wish him a Happy 87th Birthday.
Eighty-seven years young and still going strong and amazing me with his chops.
I've known Jerry for close to 42 years now and have studied with him on and off for many of them. Jerry has been more than a teacher, he has been a dear friend in tragedy and joy. Right now, I'm picking up the horn again and working on his latest embouchure setting. It's murder but Jerry has never failed me before so I'm confident that in about 2-3 weeks of "wood-shedding" the sound will come.
Please join me in wishing a very happy birthday with wishes for continued good health and many more birthday celebrations to Jerry and of course, to wonderful Yumiko too !
"Puerto Rico" Joe

Spoke to Jerry this evening. He said he spent most of the day on the phone getting birthday wishes from all over. It was clear he enjoyed hearing from so many. He's 87, still going great, and as passionate about trumpet as ever. Players should get a lesson while they can!

I'm sure it wasn't your intent, but that statement sounded very ominous, and dark. Especially on the man's birthday!!!

Happy birthday Jerry, thanks for all the tips, suggestions, guidance, and paitience over the years!!

I called Jerry last night at eight to wish him H.B., he said thanks and promptly started to give me a lesson over the phone. The man's generosity and enthusiasm have only increased over the five decades I've known him.

'While they can?' With the passion Jerry has about the trumpet, he's going to outlive you Kyle! HB Jerry and thanks for showing me I can get a BIG sound out of a small mouthpiece!

Jerry has 25 extra years on me, but you might be right! He's a great example of the value of rising everyday with passion.
