Thanks a lot for the very helpful video! Your articulations are really excellent and a good sound ideal to have in mind during practicing.
At 0:25, were you just exaggerating the motion or doing something fundamentally different? I still feel the throat slightly expanding (not as extreme as in the vid obviously) at every "gu" attack?

Tongue articulations are all improved when tongue movement is decreased to the absolute minimum. Speed, clarity, precision, endurance, and pitch are all improved. Recognition of this is a big part of what drove Jerome to further refine and advance TCE. Anyone having troubles developing multiple tonguing should try a current lesson with Jerome. Nearly all of us mess ourselves up by calling on the tongue to move in multiple inefficient ways. Thankfully, once you get it work efficiently for range, power, endurance, and pitch it's also in its best position for rapid articulation. It just takes some correct guidance followed by careful practice.
Man you sound great. I kinda understand a little better about that "cough attack".... but I may never get it right
Clearly it works for you, and I appreciate your clear pragmatic explanations and videos. So...thanks for sharing!!
As I said, I don't use every piece of dogma that comes from MSC or TCE, but I am always thinking and rethinking what I'm doing and why certain things are successful. And if not for Jerry's teachings and words over the years, I know I'd not be as competent a player nor would I've ever thought about the roles of my tongue and chop shape and why things happen.
I played some picc at Church last Sunday for the first time in a long time, and was really focused on getting the pop and snap I wante. I HATE piccolo trumpet, but I had more fun last week playing than I maybe ever before. I even got a few smiles and nods from the ornery Russian organist that NEVER gives me any compliments or signs he enjoys working with me....so that was nice.

Thanks for the video, it's good to see people upload stuff about TCE because whenever anyone has a question on TCE it just seems that the only answer on here is have a lesson with Jerry, it'd be nice to see lots of people's interpretations and advice on the TCE technique, so Kyle as an expert please can we have some advice specifically on this video. It's not easy for us UK players to fix up lessons with jerry. _________________ Eclipse Celeste MY 2023

Though I don't get involved with the individual critiques on TH, I can offer a general tip that will hopefully be more helpful. From Trumpet Secret #3 to #4 Jerry begins the very important transition from TCE to MSC. To break old habits, it's helpful to get a preliminary base in TCE, but the transition to MSC should be introduced quite quickly. Use the ice cream lick to firmly establish both lip grips against the fully forward tongue per Secret #4. From there, tongue movement is absolutely minimal. And movement is up-down only, of course. I think you'll find that articulation problems, single and multiple, go away very quickly after the transition.

I think that the way Bahb and Jerry describe this process is quite different and I wouldn't be so bold as to disagree with either of them. Multiple tonguing is quite an important part of both of their teaching because it really encourages the tongue to find and stay in the right position.
Even since making this video I've had quite serious progress in finding a position where the tongue is moving even less. I can play much faster and cleaner but still needs work. Sometimes I can't distinguish which part of the tongue is making the attack but it's definitely not just fast single tongue as the speed is nuts!!
I'll post up another video when I have a chance to make it _________________ UK-based professional trumpeter.
