Brent,
Interesting indeed! I did not realize that Adam Rapa was designing his own line of trumpets now. With the production savvy of Andy Taylor, I'm sure the trumpet world will expand a little more.

Looks like it might have some nice features. I wonder if they plan on making them with a more traditional look. What I see doesn't really interest me visually.
But that probably means they will be extremely popular. |

interesting. the Chief of Manufacturing is Andy Taylor from UK
not clear to me, if this new brand is an improved Taylor trumpet, if it will fight in the same arena (same price?) or if it will replace Taylor trumpets
any ideas? |

Maybe someone is private-labeling these for Adam under Andy Taylor's supervision. If you watch the video you'll notice that Adam doesn't actually play one. He just tells how great they are.

Be it any number of "boutique" brands, very few do it all on their own. Clearly Adam has chosen wisely partnering with at least two very seasoned makers of components, Meinlschmidt for valves and Andy Taylor for his hand spun bells and assembly.
With the loss of Bauerfeind as a supplier of piston valves (now owned by Adams), the majority of European makers have had to turn to other sources or make their own as Hub Van Laar has done.
I've know Adam since his teenage years playing in the local Malden, MA East Coast Jazz Drum & Bugle Corps, through his years touring with the show BLAST! and now as a soloist. I must say he's got a ton of talent and boundless energy. _________________ James Becker

that's a fine sounding trumpet. the other important part of the equation is getting hold of one and seeing how it blows for you.
since this is tied in with andy, are all of these heavy horns? |

That video is hilarious. I almost couldn't take him seriously. But where are the prices? |

Adam appears to be playing the four valve version here. |
Adam sounds great as always. Great solo chops and feel. Awesome displays of technique and finesse.
But his trumpet sounds like a flugelhorn o_O
That's what I dislike about these huge belled, heavy horns....they don't sound like trumpets to my ears.
For a solo instrument and a feature...ok...sounds great!! I don't know how useful a horn like that would be in other everyday applications. |

Righto. That's one of the reasons I could never get on board with Monette horns (or the heavy ones at least). They sound too warm, fluffy, dull (pick your adjective). Like you said, great for solo or jazz work, but not ideal for blending with traditional trumpets. |

Okay, so in this one thread we've got the Lotus website, which lists Adam Rapa as the owner and designer of these Lotus trumpets, with Taylor building them. Then you've got people saying (or implying) two things: 1. that he's actually playing AR Resonance horns and 2. that these Lotus horns are copying off of AR Resonance. At least that's what I gathered from anrapa's post. Which is also confusing to me that we're talking about Adam Rapa's new horn company, and this other company's account is called "anrapa".
Somebody mind clearing this up? Are the AR Resonance folks in fact saying that these Lotus horns are copying them? |

No, they are not. If you want more info, check the AR Resonance site, the link is in anrapa's post at the beginning of the thread. He is the manufacturer and designer of the horns in the videos. I am pretty sure, because there is AR Resonance signature receiver with threaded mouthpiece. I know anrapa personally, and I remember when he was studying the design of the receiver and the mouthpiece. _________________ "Don't play like a trumpeter, play like a singer!" Andrea Giuffredi

I interpreted anrapa's post to be a subtle (?) suggestion that Lotus designs share some striking similarities to his horns (specifically the 4-valve and conversion options). We went through this same thing when Monette released their Resonance mouthpieces....both the observations of similarity and the confusion. |
