I play in church often. I have found that softly (very softly) buzzing the mouthpiece can keep the chops reasonably ready for use. |

It has been a long time, since I just picked the horn up again after 18 years, a couple weeks ago. I have extensive experience playing in church and it is a favorite thing to do, but being warmed up and staying that way are a problem. From a pretty young age I used to sit and hold the mouthpiece to keep it really warm. Just having it feel like I had been playing when I anchored it would let me make the first attack easier. I am 67 now, but in my forties I just gave it all over to the Lord and played for him. Things seem to flow pretty well. Playing in a church service is a privilege, not just a performance. Good Luck! |
