Hey all
Just an advice:
You definitely should check this new mouthpiece designer from France:
https://www.donat-mouthpiece.com/
Dimitri Donat and his staff have already conviced such guys as Roy Hargrove, Arturo Sandoval, Russel Gunn, Erik Truffaz, Rashawn Ross, Justin Stanton (Snarky P)...to name a few.
Remarquable craftmanship, great design, these pieces are absolutely forgiving in use and very efficient.
Furthermore, he is very friendly, available and open minded, always in search of new advices.
Stay tuned as he's actually building a piece with a few specs I have suggested. I know I will be impressed by this one... _________________ C. LeLoiL

What makes those mouthpieces different or special for you in comparison with other famous brands? |

I've been a Monette enthusiast for more than 10 yrs now...and a regular Bach, Kanstul, ACB, Heim etc user at the same time. I always thought my mp safari had ended with this stuff from Portland..but I tried these pieces from Savoie (bit far from St Malo unfortunately) and it blows my mind: FOR ME such Great intonation in all register, super confort, and the SOUND I get with my committee on a precise equivalent size just put me down: so much livelier, large, warm...maybe just a little less projection compared to the Monette; otherwise for me this is it
and shall we discuss the price for these..? _________________ C. LeLoiL

Hi Frederic
different blanks/ different backbore/ shanks and so different throats. Check their site.
The ones I have for try are all heavy blank/ short shank with a > 4 mm large throat _________________ C. LeLoiL

Yes, interesting he has the short shank large throat like Monette. I just got a Kanstul copy of a Monette B4D and I'm sold on the concept. Monette reasons that the standard length of mp we have now was actually to accommodate trumpets that converted between Bb and A, and if you're playing a modern Bb, the shank should be shorter, which is the length that Monette has.
Aside from Monette, its direct copiers and now Donat, what other mp makers do a short shank? _________________ 1938 Martin Handcraft Imperial #2 bore, 38 bell

Thanks Christophe, i just mailed them to know if they make a mpc with the playability of a Monette 6 and a more "conventional sound" with overtones "à la" 3C. _________________ Frederic FELTZ

i've a TOUVRON model on order, short shank, light, 4mm backbore.
Dimitri DONAT said me that was a good 3C/B6 competitor, i will post a review when received (made to order, so : beginning of November) _________________ Frederic FELTZ

So i received it this morning faster than expected, thanks to Dimitri Donat.
That's the Touvron model, light blank : à la Monette XLT, short shank (= Monette B6)
The throat is 4 mm so approximately 22.
I've compared it to the Monette Silver 6 and Kanstul CG3 (22 bore also).
The blow is similar to the CG3, the Silver 6 seems slightly more open.
The sound is slightly different also.
More high harmonics with the Donat who give a very clean and pure sound especially above the staff.
A contrario, the Monette seems to have a broader spectrum in the low harmonics and a little less clean sound.
The CG3 seems to deliver a less refined sound.
The attacks are also crisper with the Donat with a big sparkle.
The intonation of the Donat is the best of the three.
The high C is too flat with the CG3, too sharp with the Silver 6 and right spot on with the Donat.
At least with my ability to play relaxed (i work at House with the Resonance 6 Prana because it shut off if i have too much tension, this mpc is a very good teacher !)
But too open for me to play in the big band and the symphonic orchestra i've recently joined.(amateur, second in the two cases, i play the Silver 6)
The final result after one day test is a far better endurance with the Donat, perhaps the very good intonation is responsible of that ?
Dimitri Donat played Monette mpcs before his own one and you feel the influence of Monette in this Mpc.
There is something who make the Donat more "Monettish" than the conventional CG3.
But with a great player as Guy Touvron, he was able develop a mpc who increase facility and endurance and a more 3C Bach sound in the same time.
Too long post ... and i do not pretend to have the ability of a pro player to judge a mpc, but the extended endurance is a very good thing for an amateur ! _________________ Frederic FELTZ

Hello Christophe,
Great video, you sound good with this one too. the sound seems to have more core to my ears.
Thanks to you I discovered this brand.
I finally found the substitute of my Bach 3c # 24 which was in very bad shape.
I tried the standard and heavy 169C and opted for the heavy one.
It is different from my Bach but nevertheless very pleasant with a deep and dark sound.
I had to adapt to the wider and flatter rim. _________________ 2018 Bach 19043 (Kanstul CG3)
