A few weeks ago I purchased a Donat mouthpiece from the newest dealer in Europe, specific in the Netherlands (website: balanced-embouchure.eu). What can I say; Donat mouthpieces are, in my opinion, the best kept secret in mouthpiece business at this moment. However as I understand some great players have already discovered them. Comfort, flexibility, intonation and sound, that's what impresses me the most. Donat mouthpieces have, as I'm right, a somewhat larger throat but they play very easy. So yes, I'm a fan!

This mouthpiece (the Touvron) is a beast.

I finished the Big band rehearsal yesterday with lips to do an other one.

Crisp sound, intonation, endurance are superb.

Dimitri is highly influenced by Monette but discovered something to add to permit this endurance gain.

The high harmonics are also more present and the sound less "brassy" or "tuby" in the low and middle register.

A very well balanced piece.

I have also a 168 C and a 168 Flugel who are great mpcs, the 168 C is closest to the Silver 6 for the sound but again with a better endurance.

Dimitri's pieces are not Monette copies despite the external shape of his short shanked pieces.

The quality and plating are also top level.

no they are absolutely not copies. I didn't played a bunch of Monette mouthpices, maybe 3-4 and the Donat have their own personality.

Can you tell me a bit more about the 168C? I'm tempted to order one.

By the way, Dimitri will ship me a used Truffaz mouthpiece; very curious and excited to try it.

I love the Touvron model so much I immediately ordered a short shank heavier version...

I purchased his version of a Bach 3C and I LOVE IT. For me, the rim that he makes just feels better. It's a little wider and has a bit more cushion. I have a Bach 3C, and I would say the Donat has a little more resistance, which I like.

I just ordered a custom lead mouthpiece from Ko (his dealer for stateside) after chatting with Dimitri (a little name dropping), and the interaction has been fantastic. They are making me a lead mouthpiece similar to one that Eric Miyashiro plays which he calls the 161F (similar to a Bach 10 1/2). I asked for a wider/flatter rim than normal and they happily started the work.

The 168 C seems as the Monette 6 a slightly smaller 3C

Great all around mpc with less brilliance and endurance than the Touvron but a fatter low and middle register. i have it in heavy short blank.

The problem is that the Touvron is a chameleon and so easy to play that i barely play the 168.

For me the Touvron diameter seems between 3 and 7 Bach closest to 7 and the 168 closest to 3.

I have 2 Touvron : shorts, 22 bore, light and heavy, I prefer the heavy.

Dimitri said me that the 169 was clearly bigger than the 168 with more effort to play it and a decreased endurance (think 1 1/2c vs 3 C ?)

Jr, what is your version of your Bach 3C ?

It's very difficult to compare the size of mpc and i think we will have different opinion of the comparison with Bach ones, even Dimitri has a hard job to make a equivalence chart.

He began to trust measurement to compare but all makers do not measure at the same point of the rim and alpha angle for example has a big influence on the sensation of size.

And some players said him sensations of diameter who are different from what the measures says.

So the chart on his site is not definitive and he is still working on it.

If you trust his chart the TOUVRON who is a 165 would be in the 7C diameter range.
