|
|
I haven't touched a C trumpet since 1982 and frankly i just don't remember, so here goes, If i were to play on a C trumpet a high C for example, does it have the same feeling or sensation as when i play the high D on my Bb. In other words, the resistance, the pressure, etc., the feel inside the mouth.
just wondering this after watching a few trumpet players on youtube, playing above the staff on their C trumpets.
regards,

To me there is a distinct difference in how Bb trumpets and C trumpets feel and blow, although I've had one exception to that - a friend of mine had a C trumpet with a Blackburn leadpipe, and he had Curry CCaps on the valves as well. That particular horn felt like a Bb, and I used it on a couple of occasions for a church gig with him where he was playing pic or something.
Other than that though, to me there has always been a distinct difference. _________________ Patrick Gleason

It depends on the C trumpet. Many, to me feel terrible, tight, inflexible and hard to play.
Some, like the ones I play, feel terrific. I have a Kanstul made Besson C which plays and feels like a Bb.
So with C's, you win some you lose some.
cheers

I think i'm going to spring for a C, for what ever reasons i've been in that Olympic theme frame of Mind, and after watching Morrison, Martin and a bunch of the other Principals all over youtube i've been inspired to try something i haven't done since college, namely play a C trumpet.
It will come in handy this christmas season.

I don't want my C trumpet to sound nor play like my Bb.
It' s a bigger more open play with a crisp tone - one that can be clear in Church, can carry through the Orch, and hold together in a solo.
If your C sounds like your Bb, why do you need it other than to not transpose.

The difference is in sound, not necessarily feel. At least that's how I try to think of it. |
