What is the weirdest trumpet you guys have ever seen/played/owned. I am very into weird/vintage horns and get the opportunity to play one whenever I can. My personal weirdest trumpet is a Cornopean with an offset second valve. _________________ Schilke B1 Bb

Holton New Proportions long models (Couturier and Clarke) have a weird wrap but they are cornets. Mine plays well and it looks weird enough to look cool _________________ a few different ones |

You might wanna re-title the thread. Technically, a cornopean is not a trumpet, and thus not at all weird by cornopean standards!
I haven't had the opportunity to play a weird trumpet or a rare/unusual kind of brass horn by either standard though :/ _________________ "Stomvi" PhrankenPhlugel w/ Blessing copper bell

The most unusual horn that I had ever played was a long, narrow silver trumpet that had been made in what became Czechoslovakia after WWII. My father (who also played) was in the Army occupational forces had traded a carton of cigs for it. Good deal for him since he didn't smoke. Supposedly it was a B flat horn , but it was always on the sharp side, even with all the slides out as far as they would go. Stopped using it once I got my first Holton. |

My 2 unusual are an E. Coutourier conical bore and Boland and Fuchs Top Action Rotary Valve trumpets.

You need to check out the York Airflow, which came in both trumpet and cornet versions. VERY unique wrap.
Another example would be the York Feather Touch, which had valve springs that stretched rather than compressed when you pressed the valve buttons. This valve system was available for a while on both trumpets and cornets in the York catalog.
York -- purveyors of weirdness for over 25 years! (Actually, they were in business for almost 80 years, but not everything they made was "weird".)

In all honesty, the weirdest one I ever played happens to be the one in my hand at the moment. I just picked up again after an 18 year lay off. I could make any good trumpet cry at this point. You have a good topic though. |

Depends on your definition of weird. I have played on an Olds CHR and a Martin Magna MG (.470 bore, 6" bell), and while both were... outside of the standard configuration for trumpets, neither was really bizarre. I once goofed around with a Puje, and that was another horn that was out of the norm, but still good. Someday I'd like to try one of the Schagerl horns like the Mnozil Brass use. |

Not weird but the old Holton MF Firebird was interesting and fun to play around with. |
