I am looking to purchase a new trumpet for my son. He has no prior experience, and I was looking for recommendations on good into-trumpets.
Any suggestions are welcome! Thank you! |

my personal suggestions: Bach, Yamaha or Getzen at a price point you can afford. |

Look into rental programs in your area, I suspect your school has at least one recommendation .. you'll get a decent instrument, probably with the option(s) to purchase later or upgrade to a newer better instrument down the road. PLUS, periodic maintenance and repairs are included in most rental agreements-very important for beginners. Part of learning to play is learning how to care for an instrument. Undoubtedly, you will have to make a repair sometime.
Then, thinking toward HS, you can begin to look to purchase if he's still playing. _________________ Freelance Performer/Educator

For my 12 year's old son I've got a used Getzen Capri before 3 years and he is very happy with this horn , now he plays in the community band and the horn serves him great .
Getzen 300/r00 line also are fantas beginers horns.

For a new student it’s not going to make much of a difference. You can rent at first to see if he’s gonna stick with it. Or buy used if budget is a concern.
Buying used can be iffy if your not sure about repairs and condition. Might help to bring a more experienced trumpet player or teacher when buying or making a decision.
You don’t want to get a horn with repair or playability issues that makes learning or playing more difficult than it already is.
Buying American or Japanese horns are usually a safe bet. Stay away from Chinese or Indian imports. Bach, Conn, King, Getzen, and Yamaha are some good examples of safe bets for a new or used starter trumpet. |
