I know the orchestral standard in the US is a large-bore c-trumpet, but in what settings are ML-bore c trumpets appropriate? Is there an approach to playing them that makes them more acceptable in normal orchestral settings?

Are there known/common ways to make them sound more like large bore instruments? While I don't expect a perfect match, something pretty close would be great.

Thanks![/list]

I studied with Don Reinberg, the 1st trumpet in SFO, when I was stationed at the Presidio in San Francisco ca. 1970 to '72. He played a Bach ML 239 with, I believe, a 1 1/2C mouthpiece and sounded great. He was a protege of Vacchiano. I heard hi on any number of orchestral works and opera as well, including Tristan (with Birgett Neilson!). At that time SFO had the opera as part to their season. The third trumpet played a Benge 3C+ and the second a Bach. Go figure.

So a nice normal piece and a good sound concept may be all I need for most settings? I like that.
