I've really enjoyed learning about performers and bands I had never heard of before, such as Tim Akers and the Smoking Section and Tuba Skinny, both of whom recently appeared in posts on this forum.
So, with that in mind, and in the interest of creating a one-stop shop, I'd love to hear about local bands (with trumpets of course) that may be known in the immediate community but are not national acts. The could be amateurs or a group of local session players--funk, dixieland, brass quintet, whatever. Post video links if you can.
My pick is Cecilia Noel and the Wild Clams. I lived in LA for 6 years and had the good fortune to see her live numerous times at the Key Club. I say this with no exaggeration, that this was one of if not the most energetic and fun live bands I ever heard, and wow, they were tight.
She called it "SalSoul", an amalgamation of Salsa, soul and funk.
The line-up is a who's who of great local and session players including Bernie Dresel (from the Big Phat Band) and Lee Thornburg (ex TOP).
So, post your favorites and give me something new to listen to between work and practice :-)

Yes very energetic and lively captivating indeed. However I like big bands with more orchestral sound production better .
So the Tolvan Big Band band is awesome - doubting you´ll find better band in the US _________________ Cornets:

Hmm, I'll call your bluff and raise you the Big Phat Band.
I enjoyed the Tolvan Big Band, and I'm not really interested in discussing better or worse in either case, but I'm having a hard time imagining a group that could be demonstrated to be better than the Maria Schneider Orchestra.

Well I should have written "might be compared to the best bands" - boasting gen´multiplied of all a sudden. And Big Phat band and the Schneider band oh yes! Count Bubba....."sock it"! Thanks for the tip!
Not really wanting to enter the competition race. _________________ Cornets:

Yes, as has been said, I'm not into 'ranking' them either, I just couldn't resist teasing a bit given the wording that was used originally above.
There are (thankfully) still a lot of great big bands floating around. Unlike most other forms of music, I can't think of many examples of a big band that I *don't* like. _________________ "Music is like candy, you throw the (w)rappers away."
