Is Houston really the jazz wasteland it seems to be? For American's fourth largest city, and the city that produced Joe Sample, Hubert Laws, Robert Glasper, Eric Harland and Jason Moran, you'd think there would be a fairly vibrant jazz community. Yet we go down to visit our son and daughter-in-law once or twice a year, and always struggle to find a good jazz venue. Cezanne seems to be the only place that does jazz exclusively, but they're only open Fri-Sat, which are often our travel days.
Google searches generate names of clubs that really don't seem to feature jazz. So I'm hoping there are some Houston jazzers here who might be able to direct me to some more legitimate choices. _________________ 1945 Martin Committee

A large part of America is a jazz wasteland. Read the surveys. Less than 1% of the population is interested in jazz. Good luck. I travel twice a year to New Orleans. _________________ Richard

If you were headed to Austin, I could set you up, but... not sure about Houston. There almost has to be something in a city that size, even in the land of pickup trucks and ten gallon hats. _________________ "Music is like candy, you throw the (w)rappers away." |
