What horn do you prefer to use on the Respighi Ancient Airs? |

I used Piccolo trumpet on the last movement and rotary C trumpet on the previous movements. _________________ Please join me as well at:

If you have a great D trumpet, this piece is one where you really can flaunt it. _________________ Daniel Bassin

I play:
Monette - CORNETTE/PranaXLT-STC Bb/MC-35/Raja A Piccolo;
Kromat C-Piccolo; Thein G-Piccolo; Various antique horns
MPCs - Monette Unity 1-7D and DM4LD |

This isn't a super-common piece, so I'd be surprised if a lot of people on here have played it. That being said, I think any high horn will have that light sound that you need. _________________ Please join me as well at:

There are 3 three of these Suites by Respighi. The third Suite is only for strings. The first Suite is for a small chamber orchestra with just one trumpet IIRC. D trumpet works well.
The Second Suite is scored for a full orchestra with two trumpets. C or D trumpet work well, with perhaps a switch to G or picc for the last page. If you use D, you'll need to either switch to C or use your slides carefully for the low G in mvt. 3.
There are a number of good recordings. I like the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra recording of Suite 1, with I believe Ray Mase on the trumpet part, and the Ozawa/Boston recording of all 3 Suites with Ghitalla.

It seemed to go very well. Finding a straight mute hitch worked was a challenge. I recorked a humes and berg pixie mute and a DW D trumpet mute and used the pixie.
Cheers
