I am not a pro like Flip. Here is how I sound on my WT and Wedge MP. I just recorded the first three links and like always, when recording I turn into a Kraken and have to do many takes. All of these are short clips.

The MacArthur link is from last year and is the first time I performed it in public. I got better as I performed it more, but even this link does show the Wild Thing sound. The kid playing lead was using my copper bell WT that I just traded off. I am the old guy on the far left playing the solo.

Amizade Opening: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nd4H8VieObY

Double D: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3BeQGIlS6A

Christmas Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9j-M4JZIg8g

MacArthur high solo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-aNscKY4sc

I don't think my sound is broad and diffuse in the upper range, and I think down low there is a lot of depth.

Thanks Flipimproving on trumpet will be a lifelong pursuit for me. And thanks for posting your clipshi sound great!

To the other WT players out there, its time to post your own clips. Record yourself on a smartphone, upload to your Youtube account, and paste
a link. Its time for us to show each other how we play.

Who would you guys say is the most accomplished Wild Thing player currently with something on YouTube for me to listen to? Just curious about the consensus of the best sound possible.

That's pretty easy, Arturo Sandoval.

Arturo. Flip also has good stuff as does Dan McMillion. Tom Turner is another great player. There is a lot of sound flexibility with the horn, as I hope my amateur clip showed a bit.

There is also Alan Chez, Dan McMillion. Saying 'the most accomplished player' is a impossible big order.

Speaking of adjusting ones tone quality, I find that by closing my mouth a little I can get more sizzle and zing. If I open up my mouth I get more depth. I will try to record examples and post.

HA! I knew Arturo would be the obvious choice. But he sounds great on anything and can adjust his sound to sound like anything he wants. Thanks guys for all the suggestions.

The Clowns solo allows a more melodic approach I think.

Alan was a Wild Thing artist from 1998 -2009 or so right before he left Letterman. He had his web page on my site during those years. I switched webmaster's and designers, and the old stuff is gone now off my site.

Dan McMillion is still found, however all of the sound clips are gone.

I have been approached by many for endorsements, but I can't afford to be giving out horns. I'm approached almost on a weekly basis by someone...

Darn, if only I was good enough and you could afford it.

If anyone wants to look at the old stuff on your site they can always go to the Wayback Machine. Its been years since I needed it to look up something for a customer but it sure was handy then.

This is a repost of a video I shot for the Experience thread. Here, I am playing my Wild Thing flugelhorn.

Sure... But Arturo's the kind of guy that could endorse almost whatever he chooses - if he says he wants to endorse a horn, almost any maker will do their best to accommodate him.

So... Odds are, he's playing one because he feels that it's the best fit for him - he must feel either enamored with the sound, or the playing sensation (or both) or he wouldn't be using it.

Most serious pro's could play most quality trumpets and most quality mouthpieces around their size - the reason they choose what they do is either sound or its that they feel most comfortable and get the most consistent results with what they've chosen... I doubt it's about money for the vast majority of endorsements

I found 4 or 5 vids on YouTube, not really looking, but found vids of Arturo playing MANY different horns from different manufacturers.

And on each he says wow, what an amazing horn, best I ever played etc

Arturo, Im sure is just trying to be nice and respectful. And Im sure he gets offered endorsements from different trumpet builders all the time and offered free horns all the time. Although he is a classy guy, has the resources and probably offers to pay for the horns.

Recently Ive seen him play his Wild Thing. And Ive also seen him play about a half dozen other manufacturers horns on live shows

I assume he covers up the logo on his horns with cigar wraps for some endorsement contract reasons? Or maybe just trying to avoid controversy? But hes been doing it since he stopped played his Leblanc signature horn 15 years ago or so.

I dont know anything for sure, except Arturo is a gear head. And thats awesome. And I bet hes glad to help all the trumpet manufacturers anyway he can.
