Does anyone know what shank John Packer flugelhorns have? You'd think it'd be something easy to google, but I haven't found anything so far that indicates whether it's a small or large taper. They don't even say on their site what taper their own mouthpieces are. tsk.

The best thing for you to do is to get in touch with JP themselves.
There won't be many JP flugel players on this forum ( if any at all) and you'll get just guesses I'm afraid.
By the way: they stock a pre-owned B&H Sovereign round stamp flugel, which might be worth a try.
I play one myself (vintage 1978) and really like it.
Happy New Year!

Thanks, I wrote to them first, but they're not going to be open until the 2nd now. The mouthpiece I've been offered will either be right or not, and then still available or not, there will always be others if not.

I saw they have the B&H, but I'm going down the hire route, because I can't afford to buy a good instrument right now, but I can afford to rent one. And they'll let me offset up to 6 months' rent if I buy one from them (doesn't have to be the same instrument), so I can save up and then upgrade in the summer.

For the record, John Packer flugelhorns take a large taper mouthpiece.

Hi Padmavani

Sorry, have just seen this thread, and was about to type what you say above. I've never played a John Packer flugel horn, but a player in a band I once played in, had one.

All the best for 2018.

Lou
