Darryl, sorry to hear of your loss of your friend. I bet his memorial service will be awesome.

Andy was a student of Carmine Caruso and he used this method in his teaching. While studying with him in Atlanta in the mid 80s he invited me on several occasions to a reading big-band that was mostly some local pros and some Georgia state U. Jazz students. This greatly improved my sight reading in those days as we were reading beastly charts. Lots of real progressive and challenging stuff.

I called him on occasion through the years but have not seen him in a while.

While his obit did not mention it, he was a busy teacher for much of his career as well.
