Hello. I am just trying to start on trumpet after playing bone for 45 years. I picked up an Olds Special from ebay which I thought was a medium/large bore trumpet, but the guy I am taking lessons from says he thinks it is a small bore. Does anyone know for sure? It is a very nice horn, but being a bone player, everything seems too small for me now. Even the Schilke 24 mp that he is letting me borrow.

I did play his large bore Kanstul and it was a lot easier for me to get a good sound out of.

Thanks.

A horn that would truly be considered a small bore would probably be around 438; there aren’t a lot of those out there, at least not newer horns.

Mine measures .457, did you actually measure one or are you just quoting the literature?
