First and foremost, apologies if this is the wrong forum! I'm pretty new here.

I'm an adult beginner with about 1 year of instruction on jazz trumpet. I've had some trouble finding a teacher that can accommodate my requirements (hopefully they are reasonable--please let me know if they aren't):

- Focused on jazz fundamentals
- Can meet on weekends or Mon-Thurs after 7PM, twice a month
- Can meet under 59th street, or around Prospect Park
- Preferably under $100/hr

For what it's worth, I have 10+ years of classical training, so I know how to read sheet music and a bit of classical 4-part harmony.

Would any of you happen to meet these requirements or know someone who does? Thanks!

Good luck on finding a teacher in NY. I have been trying to find one in Baton Rouge, LA for over a year. I’ve contacted several people with degrees ranging from doctorates to bachelors degrees. Not one has answered an email or text. If anyone on here knows one in this area willing to take an adult non-beginner let me know. Thanks.

If you're looking around Prospect Park, check out Jon Crowley:

A very fair price from a very good musician. He teaches the Caruso/Frink method.

Cheers.

Your jazz teacher doesn't have to be a trumpet player. So if you can't find a trumpet teacher who can teach you jazz, consider other teachers.

Back in college, I had 2 private teachers. One was my trumpet teacher. The other, my jazz teacher, played tenor sax.

Hi Chasinginfinities,

If you are still looking for an instructor, I teach privately and am based just south of Prospect Park. I definitely could accommodate your scheduling needs!

Best,
Dustin

I see on his site that Mike Sailors -- who is on TH -- teaches in Brooklyn.
