I have a small bore Conn Circus Bore cornet manufactured in 1911. There's no HP/LP mark but the tuner tells me it's HP. Extending the slides brings it close to in tune at 440 but it isn't perfect. Can LP slides be made for it?

Many English BBB cornets were "converted" from HP to LP when band's changed over in the 60's. Many of the conversion jobs weren't that great. They were often converted by just extending the leadpipe or bell tail, which didn't do wonders for them....

I'm sure if you went to a good tech these days you could get the slides adjusted, but might cost a bit?

I must admit, living here in Ballarat Australia with lots of old church organs, the tuning of which is all over the place, an old HP cornet sometimes comes in handy (St. Pauls Ballarat has a Walker organ from 1864 which runds at A=452...)

Cheers,
Roger

Well then, you'll understand when I say "No Worries Mate"

Ah the beauties of two wheels, don't mind a bit of that myself - bicycle or motorbike. I've got a topbox fitted on my motorbike that perfectly fits my cornet - nice to go to practice or even a gig on the bike....

From my experience, the HP instruments I've played that were converted to LP were a bit all over the place tuning wise, but again, I'm sure if you went to a good tech they'd sort that out.

Good luck!
Cheers,
Roger

I'd guess you could have a tech just replace the inner slide tubes with some that were slightly longer so you'd have a bit more pull available for them. The question would be if it's worth the bother and expense, though.

Dr. Valve has it now. We'll see what he thinks.
