I'm getting contradictory mouthpiece taper information for my Jupiter 846R Flugelhorn. (If it matters, the horn's serial number starts with an H, which suggests a 2006 horn.)
Mouthpieceexpress.com and most of the online forums/community claim it is a large (standard) taper.
However, Bob Reeves claims it is a small (bach) taper. In addition, I emailed Jupiter and the responding agent claimed, "It replicates a Bach and is a Morse Taper".

Should I trust Jupiter or the community?
Does anyone have a Jupiter 846?

Large Morse taper is what you want. I used to have that model too. Nice flugel for less money.

I just got this email from Jupiter:
We have just the Number 1 Morse taper. It is consider the large taper. Depending on what you have in a Bach you would call it standard but it is smaller. Ours is the standard.

Thanks for playing Jupiter!

MouthExpress said its definitely a large taper. (Not a Bach taper.)
I bought a Curry 3FLD with large taper from MouthExpress. We'll see how it goes when it arrives.

Same here. My son has an 846RL, which takes a large taper mouthpiece.

Clear as mud. You'd think that they'd been asked this enough times that they'd have a prepared, coherent response.

I have one of those Flugelhorns. The 'large morse' taper has been called a 'Yamaha taper'.

The mouthpiece you want is a 3FLD-Y - Mouthpiece Express probably got it right if you told them it was for a Jupiter.

It's sad when one gets better info on a horn from an on-line mouthpiece store than from the maker. I've had similarly poor results from communications with Jupiter.

Gary.

The mouthpiece arrived today and it sounds great!
The large taper fits well with my Jupiter 846R Flugelhorn.
I ordered the Curry 3FLD. The D refers to the deep cup. It is actually more of a V cup and resembles a French horn cup. The sound is very rich. I can usually squeak out a double G on tmpt bach 3c mpc. I cannot play very high on this flugel V cup, but that is to be expected.

I don't play jazz very often. My quintet uses flugelhorn on classical and marches when we want a mellow and dark sound. This mpc will be great.

Btw, I just got my Jupiter 846R from ebay. Physically, the horn is in great shape. It has a 3rd valve slide trigger, which it needs. My only complaint is that the low C is horribly flat and the tuning slide is all the way in. I guess this is why people are "tweaking" horns.

Thanks for your feedback!
