Blue Juice. It's as good as any lubricant I've tried and leaves much less gunk in my horn. _________________ Scott |

Used the fancy $15 an ounce "boutique" oils with cute pictures on the bottle for a long time. Now, I buy a jug of Roche Thomas oil (16 oz,) for less than that. Works about as well and I can squirt a shot down the leadpipe to keep the corrosion down without emptying my wallet at the music store! Of course, synthetics last a bit longer, but hey,oiling the valves gives you something to do to while resting your chops during those long practice sessions. |

I’ve used them all as most of have. Ultra pure is ok but not great given the choices above.
My choice is Hetman 2. Outstanding and long lasting. An immediate improvement once I cleaned my valves and casing from ultra pure. _________________ USCG Rick

Zaja Blue used to be a favorite of mine. But I never see it for sale in the last few years.
Monster Oil lubricates really well, but it has a slight odor. That's why I tend to use UltraPure or Hetman 1 (sometimes 2) instead. |

Zaja is my favorite. You can order it directly from their website. Just received 4 more bottles the other day. | Thank you. |

I really like Ultrapure, and had good luck with it for years, but switched to Monster due to 1) the addition of a copper passivator and 2) the fact that multiple formulations exist for my horns of varying valve wear.
I also really like their slide grease, and the slide oil is convenient, although not as good on some of my horns as others. |

None of the above. Roche-Thomas is fluid without being watery, minimal odor, does not react with slide lubricants, durable with minimal need for re-oiling, does not dilute easily, economical especially in the 16-ounce bottle that you can use to refill your gig bottles for each horn, versatile for all different horns, from those with the tightest valves to those with a little clearance.
Not as weird as the Hetman products (no foamy goop);
More robust than Al Cass;
Less re-oiling than Blue Juice;
Much less odor than Bach;
More economical than just about everything else;
Amenable to adding a drop of mineral oil if you need "classic" viscosity for valves starting to wear, but don't want to pop for a valve rebuild.
And the rest of the also-rans which don't need mention.
Roche-Thomas is the only oil I use, and have for over forty years. My experiences with the others come from times when I have either purchased a horn and a bottle came with it, or forgot my gig bottle on the stand at home and had to borrow, or someone says, in essence, why are you using "that old stuff" instead of the "latest, greatest, etc." I use nothing else on all dozen of my brass instruments, from Eb sop to Tuba. _________________ King Super 20 Trumpet; Sov 921 Cornet

I prefer Ultra-Pure over Monster (both work very well for me) because Ultra-Pure is non-toxic and because it has no odor.
As far as petroleum based oils, I get great results from the Zaja Scented oil...Watermelon is my favorite scent. _________________ Best Regards,
