|
|
The Arban’s Jazz Scale Connection...unlocking the jazz education potential in Arban’s world renowned method for the cornet or trumpet by Rich Willey for all treble clef instruments.
★ In his exercise 46, Arban showed us a way to practice scales and arpeggios in all twelve keys. Using his template, this book explores the simple to the gradually more complex chordal sounds that we hear in jazz.
★ We get to approach this in a manner that cleans up our technique and precision (like technical studies), but we also get to learn some jazz theory, getting some of those sounds in our heads and under our fingers simultaneously.
★ While cleaning up your fingerings and articulations, you’ll be learning about functional chord progressions (both major and minor), altered harmony, diminished patterns and even some Charlie Parker and John Coltrane chord changes. And you thought you were just cleaning up your technique!
★ Take a look at The Arban’s Jazz Scale Connection and if you like what you see, use the coupon code Arban and knock 25% off the cost of the book.
★ This introductory offer will end on Tax Day, 4/15, so get it while the gettin’ is good.
★ By the way, Boptism Music will be at ITG in San Antonio this year, so come by and meet Rich and Janet if you’re there!
★ Thank you for taking a look at what Boptism Music has to offer. _________________ Puttin’ On The Ritz |

My teacher is working me thru this, its very helpful to mix the technical exercises with changes that work. It allows him to show me why it works and in what situations. I have found I am using some of it when I play with recordings, and best of all I’m starting to see why it works.
Do more !!!!!!!!!!

Wow, thanks for the encouraging words, Rod!
Do more? I think the template has been set and now that you are understanding things, you could probably cook up some stuff to take you to a higher level of understanding better than I could.
Go ahead and concoct the next drill built on what you've learned and I bet that will better for your understanding than if I tried to turn out another book.
However, as in the past, if enough people write and ask, I will see what I can do, although I think that's a really good launching pad already.
Thanks again, Rod! _________________ Puttin’ On The Ritz |

For anyone interested, I found an apple app for my pad called Session band Jazz that is excellent for creating backing tracks to further enhance the experience. Has a full rhythm section and soloists as well. Ive found the soloist changes very familiar to yours and its really nice to see how the changes blend. Ive got a long way to go as I’m not even to 100 bpm and its still taking a lot of repeats. Right now I’m just concentrating on the notes and fingering and waiting on my weekly lesson with the pro for detailed explanations. He understands all the relationships and right now I want to bounce my conclusions off of him to make sure I’m not going too far afield.
Dave alluded to the fact that these could be used on other exercises once I learned to recognize all the chord structures (which could take at least a week, maybe 2).
Thanks again it was what I needed to get me started with improv..

Great work, you Beboppin Fool you! I got mine, and it's excellent. Thanks for putting this together. I've added this to my daily routine. And I love your Rehinardt articulation recommendations. It changes up the game and adds to 360-degree learning of new skills.

After a central AC repair, and 2 cars breaking down this month, I am going to have to wait on buying this, but I intend to! Looks like something my big band members could use, as well as myself!
Starving on a fixed retirement income! But hey, I have an actual paying gig in a couple of weeks! |
