Was having a discussion with a fellow trumpet loyalist, and realized we were calling the mouthpipe vs. leadpipe differently?
After a quick search, noticed different mfgs. call them differently? Bach referenced mouthpipe in all of their old catalogs.
Curious what is the proper or most common terminology? Have a small bet on the answer...

Zig Kanstul referred to it as a mouth pipe. Most other people I know call it a lead or leader pipe.

I’ve always heard it called a leadpipe. I’ve seen it referred to as a mouthpipe in some Bach literature. I’ve seen some people around here call it a leaderpipe, but never actually heard or seen ot referred to as such outside of this forum.

I think that bet is going to stay unsettled - there are lots of uses of both, and, personally, I think it's pretty arbitrary. (And, not to pick a fight, but a fairly meaningless distinction, IMO, as long as we all know what's being referred to.) |
