A legendary lead player and great person, a mentor to trumpeters in the Dallas area for decades. A huge pure sound all his own.

One of his 1s7 Calicchios, hand-made by Dominick himself is at Virtuosity Musical Instruments in Boston.

Is this the same John Thomas who used to be at North Texas?

Don Thomas was a legendary player (and personality), one of Doc’s favorite guys to work with, and an early predecessor of mine here in the Fort Worth Symphony.

The players who were here in the 70’s and 80’s remember Don’s glorious pops playing, and that’s something I try to keep in mind when we do pops. I cannot play like Don.

A close friend of mine owns one of his very last calicchios, a silver medium bore.
