I'm having a hard time finding any available for sale that I can base the value of mine off of. I've seen 925 and 1025 ones between 1400 and 1800. My 1525 is brushed lacquer and in very good shape minus a few small dings. What would you say is a fair price for one? _________________ Andrew Fowler

Well, like one retailer on the auction boards, you could post it for $6000.00.
Just post it with the amount you want to get out of it and see what you find.
Remember, no selling here in the Forum. _________________ Brian A. Douglas

There is one reason that I practice: to be ready at the downbeat when the final trumpet sounds. |

Research the TH Marketplace, eBay, Dillon Music, Horntrader (and other used horn web sites) - those will give you the best idea of what a used 1525 is selling for.
Other things to consider:
- How old is the horn?
- The minor dings you mention - are they repairable? Do they (in your opinion) affect how the horn plays? Are they instantly noticeable or do you have to search for them?
- If you decide to sell, will you offer a trial period? (where the purchaser is responsible for return postage if they decide not to keep it).
The ultimate answer is what you think it's worth and how much you'll accept for its purchase. _________________ Tim Wendt

Worthless. Just put it in a box and ship it to me for proper disposal.
Seriously, figure out what you want/have to get for it, then list it for a bit more, so you have some negotiation room. If no price you need/want, I’d use the 925/1025 prices as a guide and add a couple hundred. I’d list a trial period - I’d be more inclined to buy something in the 4-digit range if there was a trial period than not. Make sure to have pics of the dings to show a buyer. |

I follow prices on Ebay, Dillon's, Facebook, etc. I don't think you would get that much in the U.S. From your description, I'm thinking something like $1500 would be a reasonable expectation.
Hope this helps. _________________ Bach Strad ML 43 lightweight trumpet

When you do research on eBay, be sure to look at completed auctions for sold items. Otherwise, you can see what prices didn’t result in a sale.
Another option is sending it to Mike Thompson for consignment. He can appraise the horn for market value. I can’t remember if Thompson gets 15% or 20%.
Both my 1525 and 1500 are brushed lacquer. Love that flugel. _________________ Monette LTJ Bb
