They are very similar in cup size, shape and depth, but the 42S has a slightly less radical alpha angle coming off the rim which makes it much more playable for most people.

I have played Reeves Mouthpieces exclusively since 1971, first using the 1S695 (predecessor to my current 41S695, basically the same mouthpiece) as my Lead Trumpet mouthpiece of choice. I mostly play a 41C692 for the last several years as my all around use piece, but use a 41C2J regularly for a very dark, almost Flugelhorn like sound in certain performance situations. I also use Reeves 41FE and 41HF mouthpieces on my Flugelhorns. Switching from one to the other is pretty much a seamless experience with minimal adjustment. The mouthpiece builds have been very consistent over the years and I have never considered using anything else.

Best wishes to you in your Reeves experience!

Mike
