Primary Materials for Study

Though this forum can rightly attempt to help clarify the teachings of Mr. Callet as well as air our personal experiences, an internet forum can't possibly proclaim to "teach" over the web such an involved exercise as trumpet embouchure. As a bare minimum, serious students should expect to purchase the basic materials in addition to taking private lessons from Mr. Callet or one of his advanced students.

To date, the primary written materials are as follows:

"Trumpet Secrets, The Secrets of the Tongue-Controlled Embouchure". Mr. Callet's most recent and expansive work, published in 2002 and available here: http://www.callet.com/

"Superchops, A Virtuoso Embouchure Method for Trumpet and Brass, published in 1987. Though no longer in print, I believe you can obtain a copy from Bruce Lee at http://northernbrass.com/ or Lee Adams at http://www.trumpetchops.com/forum/. There is an accompanying video that most have found very helpful too.

"Trumpet Yoga", Mr. Callet's first major breakthough, published in 1986 by Charles Colin, but no longer available. However, very similar information on the essential pedal tone and roll-out exercises of Trumpet Yoga are contained in "The Balanced Embouchure" by Jeff Smiley. This book is easily obtained here: http://www.trumpetteacher.net. Though the roll-in techniques of the Balanced Embouchure are not part of Mr. Callet's teachings, the "Yoga System" for practicing pedal tones and extending range through the roll-out can confidently be followed per Mr. Smiley's precise instructions, diagrams, and CD. In his very well written book, Jeff has generously given credit to Mr. Callet as one of his important influences.
