Hi everyone,
What's your preferred choice for the 3rd chord of the A section of There Is No Greater Love? The Real Book has Ab7 concert, but I think I hear D7 on most records. I've also seen D-7, D+7, and Ab-7b5 recommended, which I think are somewhat less plausible.
I personally really like the Ab7, but if that's a wacky choice then I'd rather do most of my shedding in the generally accepted key.
Your thoughts and recommendations are welcomed! Thanks _________________ Yamaha 8310Z trumpet

It's not necessarily which chord as how you prepare it and leave it.
Regarding choice of chords, I use both, so the fourth measure is: D7 / Ab9 / _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

Not sure what the consensus would say, but you are apparently already aware that you really need to be prepared for whatever they throw at you.
Knowing the possibilities is the first step in not getting thrown for a loop by some pianist or guitarist clobbering you with what he thinks is right.
The second step is hearing what's getting played and nailing it because you knew what to listen for.
You'll be okay, I have a feeling. _________________ Puttin’ On The Ritz |

Bbma7 -> Eb7 -> Ab7 -> G7 is common.
Bb7 -> A7 -> Ab7 -> G7 comes up a lot in blowing. _________________ Jeff Helgesen
