|
|
Hi,
So I've been experimenting with tighter Backbores and am now pretty comfortable and getting a lot of playing ease and a big sound out of tight Backbores (and a small, comparatively shallow mouthpiece). I've gone all the way to a Warburton 1* and would like to try something even tighter. The next step I imagine would be tighter throat? Would.like to try a J29 Backbore which has a 29 drill 'waist'.
But are there other brands that make (extremely) tight Backbores I could try? |

The Reeves 692sL bbore matching with S,SV and ES cups all coming with #28 bore are some of the tighter (and most efficient ) I ever try.

As with all things, what works for one player might not for another.
And tight is a relative term when it comes to shape and taper...
I found that the Warburton Q and NY backbores backed up on me a bit.
However, the Qm and H feel very good in different horns.
Another brand I use are Greg Black Giardinelli backbores and his copy
of a Schilke Faddis.
I've tried his AA bb also ...now that one is very tight! |

I have the Qm and it plays nice and open to me. I have also an NY and I find that oddly stuffy.
The H might be worth trying along with the J29. I'll probably also try a straight #1, 2 and #3 at some point. The 1* seems to be working pretty well for me just at the minute. Although, I've found that it feels awful on a top with a bigger or wider cup, so there seems to be a definite relationship between cup volume and whether something feels stuffy.
Out of curiosity, anyone had any luck using a backbore with a smaller throat than the top has? Eg a #29 throat backbore with a top with a #27 throat?
If that works alright, any ideas who makes backbores with smaller drill sizes other than reeves? |

I suggest you to try the incredible Curry 50s and the Jim New L (lead) backbores. On the Jim New you can also ask for his patented gap regulator that is extremely useful. _________________ ------------------------
