Hello there.
I've been using a Giardinelli 2 piece forever! It's a 7c with a 6 top. It's completely worn now and I'm wondering if anyone would recommend something new? I looked at getting it re-plated and that works out expensive as I need to ship it overseas. So, maybe it's time for a change....any ideas would be gratefully received.

thanks,

Tomas

Here's 6 trumpet players I saw this morning on Snarky Puppy's FB page, enjoy!

http://www.warburton-usa.com/

John Stork and Terry Warburton both apprenticed with Bob Giardinelli. They would be a good place to start.

When I was at North Texas and hanging with some studio-bound, excellent musicians, many of them played Giardinellis but I also found Purviances, and some Bushs, Rudy Mucks, Schilkes and Bachs. FWIW

But Giardinellis seemed to be the weapon of choice.

I was told the Giardinelli, in either the 6 or 7 size, was popular amongst the jazzers in the 60’s.

Kanstul makes reproductions, but there’s speculation they might be in trouble

Does anyone know if these are copies of the vintage Giardinellis?

I do believe those should be exact copies.

I know that Danny Stiles was playing a 7M. I played one (7M) in the '70's when I was doing a lot of Latin gigs in Chicago. I had heard that Freddie Hubbard used a 6M at one time.

Greg Black would be another potential source - he also made mouthpieces at Giardinelli before going out on his own, and he makes the NY Legends line of Giardinelli reproductions (not to be confused with Legends Brass), which can be purchased from Gerry Lopez.

Be aware, though, that all of the sources mentioned so far either make one-piece repros, or top-and-backbore 2-pieces... whereas the originals used a screw rim. So - getting something like your 6 rim on a 7C cup would be a custom order.

Also - forgot to mention the obvious, which is that original Giardinellis come up for sale on ebay and the TM marketplace quite often, so keep looking!

And another thing - I don't know where you are located, but I can't believe you'd have to send your piece to the US to have it replated. Maybe fixing yours up won't be as expensive as you think, and if you love the piece, that's definitely the best bet.

Terry Warburton came from Giardinelli. And Vladimir Fridman did too. Jerry Callet and Vladimir made mouthpieces together under the Callet name for a number of years. They are easily spotted because there's a V.F. stamped on the mouthpiece after the model number. Keep an eye out for ones in your diameter range, or even a little smaller than you typically play. These are very popular updates to classic Giards, well worth investigating.

Played a NY Giardinelli 3VS for years on Pic and for lead.
Had it duplicated a few years ago by Karl Hammond .
a little more mass than the original, and Karl’s backbore
really opened it up while keeping the great color on my B2.
