I am not caught up in any issues involving this, so don't think that I am posting this to lash out at the TH or moderators...

I have noticed that there are posts that have been deleted and locked, I assume because there was a trumpet being sold outside of the Market Place... At least that is what the residual statement indicated.

Congruently there are advertisements for published music, within forums. Thus approved businesses can advertise there.

The question arises then, why is this allowed and not the other?

If these businesses are paying to advertise in said forum space... OK, I see the obligatory allowance, but if not? Why the preferential treatment?

I don't really care, much... assuming that life dosn't have to be fair. I just thought I would try to drum up some conversation other than... How do I play above Double High C and crush all of you?... Even though I don't have a gig. etc etc...

That was said tongue and cheek ... just to get a rise.
But it's sort of true.

this post will probably get glossed over and then lost in the ether of the
"inter-webs"

My observations:

If someone is well-known and popular on TH, then they can advertise in the forums. Sometimes the community, or even a moderator, will defend this practice, citing the advertiser's popularity or playing skill as justification.

Occasionally, ads in the Marketplace or in the Forums have been deleted because they advertise copyright violations. Other times, copyright violations and even fraudulent payment schemes will be defended vigorously, with personal attacks against those who complain.

It's all over the road.

I haven’t seen any ads for published music, but I don’t frequent all of the forums.

At the end of the day it is up to the owner of this privately owned site. Typically individuals are not allowed to sell in the forums. Commercial sellers seem to be allowed to post announcements and information on their instruments in return for their participation in the forum.

In general too many people post off topic in the horns forum since it is the most read. The moderators will move or pull these off topic threads if they find them or they are reported. Selling is a similar action. It is an off topic post due to there being a dedicated place, the marketplace, to sell.

Unfortunately due to dishonest or fraudulent spammers the marketplace needed extra steps to vet the sellers, thus leading many fly by sellers, five post wonders, to complain how difficult it is for them to sell.

Please, no private sale notices in the Forums. Read the Usage Agreement and post in the Marketplace.

Thank you,
Moderators.

Probably someone "newer" just trying to sell a horn.
Not a scam or porn site...

It is hard to get any “newer” than 2 posts.

I took your initial question to be foused on why are some sales allowed. But this post makes me wonder if you really are wanting more sales allowed.

I don't care about sales... I can't sell the horns I have, to save my life. That's a different subject. (I don't want to get deleted for trying to sell in this forum) "wink wink"

I am only pointing out the inconsistency and application of standards/rules and what not... I

New guy, old guy, liked or disliked, private or business, that's all. It is subject to the interpretation of TH Moderator "?" .

As for the most recent response confusion is created because the medium of writing a short statement in a post has so much room for interpretation. Sorry about that, it really isn't about me. (I'm not looking for more or less sales.)-unless it's my stuff... then more is better

I just wanted to stir the pot and not talk about how high I can play.

Yeah, what we really need is someone to stir the pot, not enough controversy on all the other sub-fora lately...

Reading the usage agreement might help (linked at the bottom of the page).

Businesses (which includes one-man businesses) are allowed to post so long as it is not "excessive". We do not want to discourage contributions from them, and since it is a trumpet forum it is nice to be informed about new products.

Individual sales or requests to buy are discouraged and generally deleted. Yes, there is some leeway provided for well-known and high-profile members at times but there will usually be a PM sent asking them to move it to the Marketplace.

And sometimes posts are just not caught since this is not a 24/7 paying job for any Moderator. If you see a questionable post, whether for sale/to buy or any other reason, please DO NOT post in the thread. PM the Moderators with a note and link to the post/thread for action.

So you would rather talk about how high a price you can receive?

I wasn’t thinking of you trying to sell so much as just wondering where you intended the conversation to go.

(I am bored spending the week with my mother who is hard of hearing so each conversation can happen twice immediately, maybe more if she forgets we talked about it. Of course she is doing great for 92 years of age)

I, like others, don't go to all of the forums, and I, myself, am pretty new. But, I wonder if it has something to do with the way it's worded. Par example,

"Buy my 50 yo Bach Strad. Only played once and kept in a time capsule after that. At $1 million, it's a steal!"

vs

"Hey, I've got some new practice and etude books for sale on my website. Only $10 each! www.trumpetbooksandjunk.com"

Kind of the idea of trying to sell an item vs telling someone where they can buy something. Just spitballing here, as I'm not sure of the ones that are allowed to which you are referring.
