Cracking low notes

Recently when playing a low C and below, the sound becomes crackly, as if I have to empty my spit valve. It somewhat feels like I have spit in there too, but I ensure to empty it and try again...I can not control the crackling despite my efforts. If I close my jaw, the crackling does stop, but I do not count that as a fix because the sound becomes too thin. It’s been like this for a few weeks. Important to know: In June I began an embouchure change to incorporate more upper lip into the mouthpiece. My private teacher is guiding me through this.

It's common to have issues with different parts of our range during an embouchure change. I would stay the course with your teacher, and it will most likely clear up.

My one piece of technical advice is to make sure you're not trying to play too loudly in that register during this transition time. Focus on a clear, focused, resonant tone. The volume will take care of itself in time.
