Hi,

A fun discussion and I hope my post doesn't appear too smart, nor bitter, a response.

Should the question not be; how many trumpets do you have and how many do you actually do justice to?

I think that's a fair question, and I jokingly a alluded to this in my initial reply. But I agree with you that this is more of a fun thread.

I suppose there are different reasons for owning multiple horns. Some do it because they are required for their playing requirements. Other might be collectors or might be flipping horns. In my case, it's more for sentimental reasons. Of the horns I listed, 3 get regular play, 3 or 4 get occasional play, the rest are there, I suppose, for sentimental reasons.

I agree, & I'll go "one better" why don't we each post a recording of our trumpet-playing ability & actually HEAR who can play (or not). I have posted more than 5 recordings on these boards ...

Hi Claude1949. We're both in Maryland, but I don't think we've connected locally. I sent you a PM.

I think you ask a fair question. But I'm not sure you'll find a correlation between how well someone plays and how many horns they have. Also, if expertise was required for ownership, I would have been forced to turn in my golf clubs a long time ago.

3 Bbs covering the different styles that I play regularly. (My recently refurbed Benge that I just can't seem to put down for very long is one of them).
1 C that I thoroughly enjoy playing.
2 Flugelhorns that get a regular workout.
1 Pocket Trumpet that hasn't been played for a while.

Per my Wife, I lust for many others, especially a set of high trumpets that I have absolutely no current need for.

I used to have just my 1976 Benge 5X
I bought a Kanstul 1025
I acquired a silver Wild Thing
I traded the 1025 for a silver Wild Thing flugelhorn
I sold my Benge 5X
I traded the silver Wild Thing trumpet for a copper Wild Thing trumpet
I purchased a raw copper Wild Thing flugelhorn
I purchased a used silver Schilke 4X
I sold the Schilke 4X
I sold the silver Wild Thing flugelhorn

I keep the copper Wild Thing trumpet

Mike-Agree and the BEST trumpeters I have worked with or know from the DMV area only have 1, maybe 2, but I just love horns and buy a many as I can.

Powell Bb, 2010: main horn. Use every day.
Warburton Bb, 2015: back up
Lawler Flugel 2002
Kanstul Cornet, 1995

Over the years I've owned, used and sold various Bb's, C's, pics and a Lawler herald.

I believe horns should be used (or displayed) so that they can be enjoyed.

Abroad I have:
Carol 506 Bb
Carol 4000 c pocket
Knock-off Flugabone

Here I havd:
Bach tr200 Bb
Fides C Symphony
Carol mini pocket
Plastic cornet

I think for those of us who are not pro players, multiple trumpets are a way to see how the instrument affects play or how to care for instruments. For instance, the Bach and Fides I have here both came with flaws (with the Bach it had a really loose tuning slide and folk here suggested a heavy slide grease) and the Fides I had a dent fixed for $50. For me it's been a fun way to try things out.

This plus a C.

Regrettably, I had to part with my C some time back.

Great attitude, I'm with you on that. As a trumpeter I love to try different horns and play/display them. To me, it is natural if you really like something to have many horns as they are all so different & represent different eras in the "trumpet world." Even if I owned THE BEST (Monette, Inderbinen, Adams, Schagerl, etc.) I would still buy older horns that represent a different era....

3 Bbs (2 Schilkes, 1 Yamaha LA)
1 C (Schilke C5L)
1 flugelhorn (Schilke 1040)
1 piccolo (Brasspire Unicorn)
1 cornet (Besson Sovereign 928)

I think that covers all the bases and 2 extra Bbs doesn't seem too excessive. I used to have more....

Just like a bunch of trumpet players to turn it into a "let me hear you play so I can judge how good you are on every horn" thread. It's the Horns forum, sometimes it's just about horns.

Old Bach 37 in lacquer (my first trumpet)
Flip Oakes Wild Thing Bb
Flip Oakes "Nice Thing" C
Ambassador cornet, unknown vintage
Flip Oakes Wild Thing short (shepherd's crook) corner
Kanstul 1520 A/G/Bb pic
Kanstul 1523 D/Eb
Flip Oakes Wild Thing flugelhorn (gold plate)

I suck on all of them. Or, as my teacher says, "Blow, don't suck!"

There are some folk on here with some really impressive collections, and a number of threads that have pictures of folk's horns. I've always wanted to take one or two of mine and have them engraved just because it looks so great. If I can't play 'em, they might as well look nice, eh?

Then there are mouthpieces...

I sold a few recently (and gave one away) so I have left:

4 Bb trumpets
2 Flugelhorns
1 C trumpet
2 cornets
1 Piccolo

Makes 10 in all. I also have a valve trombone that I never learned how to play.

Of your Trumpets, which in your opinion is the "best" or "superior" to the others? Are the Adams a cut above the others? Just want an honest opine.

Let's just say a large number. Of the two collectors I know of in my neck of the woods, one (the other) collects more historical instruments. So Natural trumpets, keyed bugles, mezza-lunas, etc. HE can post and prove that X instrument played the 2nd part of the premiere of...

It's a brilliant collection and as a soloist and in demand free lancer, he can certainly do justice to them all.

My collection is almost all modern instruments, the older (~1950's) are both French; a courtois high Eb flugelhorn and a Cuesnon piccolo trumpet. Of the rest, only two or three can I NOT so justice to when required. So, Bb to piccolo C, wth flugels and corners in-between, it's on an 'as required' basis.

In the past few weeks I've done justice to: KAnstul and Selmer Bb, Kanstul and Thein C, B&S and Kanstul Eb, Galileo rotary Bb, Then, Schilke and Kanstul piccolos. And finally, my Bach 42K trombone (for teaching only). While some of that as only to demonstrate when teaching, I am comfortable with them and get no complaints.

This coming week, there is some time on natural trumpet called for. an Egger, plus a DEG for the kiddies to play.

cheers

Andy

I try to have a few but they seems to multiplay...

Now it's 1948 Olds Super, 1960 Olds Super, 80's Getzen 700S Eterna and a early 90's Eterna 900LB + Schenkelaars flugelhorn.
The Conn 17B the B&F Selmer stencil I use on holyday.

But ehhhh, I spotted a classic Getzen Eterna 900 plus a very interesting B&H so who knowes...
