I'm down to just 11 now (counting the Flügelhorn and cornets).

Edit: wait, no, it's 12 counting my old Bach 37 that I believe got stepped on by a fireman while in a gig bag in my Mom's garage attic during a fire. I had forgotten I even owned it - apparently left in in that attic when I moved to California in 1982. She found it when cleaning out her house preparing to move down to Georgia to be near to my sister and her family back in 2006 or so. It's been at Ron Pinc's for years now (I told him it wasn't a priority repair and I'm not sure it's even repairable - there's also significant damage to the valve cluster threads).

Cornets and flugelhorn aren't trumpets in my book.

True. Others have listed their horns by specific categories. I'm too lazy to. Besides, no time for that - I've got many valves to oil...

I have found the section sat around discussing their impressive collections, and sometimes talking disparagingly about brands they regard as 'too mainstream', in what often becomes more of an ego-contest than anything else, only to find that when the baton comes down they all display very mediocre ability both musically and technically.

Yeah, there probably are a lot of people like that, but they no doubt help keep the manufacturers in business. If people were only allowed to buy multiple of something if they were really adept with it, a lot of industries would probably be less profitable. Just like there are people who collect guns who aren't particularly great shots.

Good morning,

Trumpets:
2 Bb (a 1980 Bach 72* and a Miraphone rotary)
1 C (1984 Bach 229 25A)
1 Eb (Schilke 4 valve tunable bell, missing D bell)

Cornets:
1 Bb (a non-descript Chinese make, my first instrument from 45 years ago )

Flugelhorns:
1 Roy Benson

Piccolos:
1 Bb/A Selmer

Natural/baroque trumpets:
3 (1 Michael Laird from 1983, 1 Vanryne from the 90s and 1 freshly made for me by Graham Nicholson)

Cornettos:
2 A440 McCann (1 straight 1 curved)
1 A465 Gohin straight interchangeable to mute cornett
1 A440 cornettino by Wilson
1 A440 mute cornett in F/G by Schuler

1 Conn French horn and 1 cheap alto trombone. I’ve had other horns that I sold...

I play reasonably decently on most of these given enough practice, but only some of these horns are top notch. The results are thus much better on the truly pro horns, and even better when they get played by true pros!

Always happy to play duets, trios etc. when I get visitors, but this does not happen often in these parts of the woods!

Cheers
Pierre

A "floating" leadpipe!? Man, I knew Josh could do some magical things, but...I gotta send a horn off to him today to make my leadpipe float! So cool!

I sold a horn to another TH member two years ago. He lived within an hour and a half, so we met halfway to do the deal. He showed me some pictures of some of his horns, so I asked how many he had. His reply: "50." I told him that I had connected with a collector a couple of months before that had over 70. He then told me about another pro that owns two apartments downtown (in his large city)...one where he lives, and one where he keeps his...(count 'em)...500 horns! We both figure the guy had gotten in on some sweet deals when eBay was a thriving auction website and when people were throwing out everything from their uncle's attic, not knowing what they had. When this TH member asked the guy what he was going to do with all of those horns, he replied: "That's my retirement!" So I guess he'll be selling lots of horns when he retires.

Because I don't read instructions very well.

Why do people feel the need to police the OP’s thread?

How many do you own?

Does a Keavy set count as 2 horns or 9? I'll be closer to exact if I know that.
