Will you ever include a fourth player? Sax? Drums? Be careful of the name!

It can be a problem if you tie the name of the band to a fixed number of players. I played with a bandleader "TW", and the band was the "TW Dectet". He added an additional sax player ... then we were "TW and the Dectet". Then he decided to drop the "dectet" part of the name, because it was not worth maintaining. Specifying a 10-piece band in the band's name was not worth the effort.

Ben Folds called his trio the Ben Folds Five because it sounded better than the Ben Folds Three to him.

Hatfield

Simple. Works for any size. Worked for Bon Jovi, Van Halen and a bunch more bands.

Why not the "Jim Hatfield Trio"? It's straight-forward, to-the-point, and everyone will know who they're hiring.

If you bring in a fourth person for a gig, no problem. For that gig, you're the "Jim Hatfield Quartet" or the "Jim Hatfield Four".

Naming it after me would jeopardize my Witness Protection status.

It's the constant exposure to brass.

Fair enough. But they'll likely find you anyway.

Are you still focusing on hot jazz? Maybe the "hot jazz three", "hot jazz trio", or "hot jazz [something]"?

You could name it after a town or a street, for example, "Market Street Jazz Band" or "North Beach Jazz Trio".
