Hello fellow trumpet enthusiasts!!
My question is whether anyone has had any experience playing on a reeves 40es. I currently play on a reeves 40s but it seems too deep for my current horn set up which is a Bach 43/72. I have no issues with the rim size 40. My question is specifically; what would an Es cup compare to in say a Bach or schilke, etc.. Cup. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance. |

This is extremely vague.
There - IMO - is no similar cup in Schilke or Bach.
What you experience as a cup that is too deep is maybe not that at all. Potentially the problem lies in the other components - the cup entry is maybe too open, the backbore too open, the throat etc etc etc....
I have had this mpc, loved the sound, couldn't make it work. It wasn't too deep IMO, just out of balance for what I needed.
Can I suggest you try a Warburton 7ESV on a 1 backbore. It sounds like you might get on with the setup I use. Others prefer the NY backbore - I find this too open. If you don't like it order it somewhere you can return it! This setup is - IMO - a little more balanced for me, and has sufficient resistance up front. The Reeves has less resistance up front and you might find it feels too "deep".
We are all so different we have to experiment. So good luck!
Best,

Mike thanks for the response. You gave me a bit to think about. Very helpful. I guess I was just thinking in regard to cup depth and wondering what was a mouthpiece with that or similar cup depth measurement. Reeves lists the Es cup as having a measurement of 0.154. Are there any other mouthpieces with that measurement in the cup depth? If so which ones? |

I guess if you want to look at measurements of depths you could try GR & Jim New. I'm sure others have depths listed, and others use relative scales, but those 2, from memory, definitely have depth measurements.
I don't think even the 6a4a has a cup as shallow as the Reeves ES - it may be very similar however.
Good luck!
