My brass quintet, for economic reasons, increasingly finds itself a Brass Quartet. My problem is that I’m sick to death of the all baroque all the time selections in the the typical catalogs, King among them. I’m familiar with the Jay Lichtman stuff and it’s great but it’s pretty much Renaissance or Baroque. This group plays a lot of church gigs and graduations. The Baroque stuff works in church but I’m looking for music that can still pass for church music but be a little more Romantic and beyond. Not so counterpointish. For public events, folk songs, Americana, etc.
Googling has sent me down a good many rabbit holes. Are there any of you who do what I do who could advise me on repertoire? Thank you |

John Addison's Divertimento for Brass Quartet. Great piece. Excellent recording with the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble on YouTube. _________________ In his retirement he had become that most dreaded of former athletes, the one who always remembered how much harder it was in his day "when ships were made of wood and men were made of steel."

I have a few arrangements....over 100, that I wrote for my very busy quartet from 1997-2004. Contact me privately, as some are more modern works and under copyright. _________________ Dr. Albert L. Lilly, III DM

Go to Sheet Music Plus and Musescore, search for brass quartet and go to town. There are tons of arrangements for four.
I would test the arranger with one piece before you order a bunch. There's some that we found had too many issues and I avoid them now.
Also, don't discount that the arrangements are for instruments you don't have. I regularly transpose the parts to adapt to my group's instruments of the day using Sibelius. _________________ Richard
