I attended a similar event at Ithaca College with Mr. Stripling and it was outstanding. He was full of sage advice.

I enjoy attending masterclasses (on any instrument). They are a great way to observe a good musical 'coach' evaluate someone's playing - and to quickly make recommendations about what to immediately DO for improvement. It might be seemingly small things like posture, or whether feet are crossed when sitting, or even how to mentally prepare and behave for an audition.

I attended a flute masterclass and saw a big improvement in sound just by how the instrument was being held. Instead of letting it droop downward slightly, hold it UP level with the floor. That simple change adjusts head and chest position to improve breathing. It might have been something the regular teacher had been continually mentioning, but which the student didn't understand.
At another flute mc, the advice was to reduce the amount of upper body motion - don't 'bob along' with the music - just concentrate on playing. That too made a big difference.

A good clinician knows there is a very limited amount of time available, so long term teaching is not possible. What's needed is to identify a key item that can be quickly changed and tested that will show improvement.

Most Important Note ? - the next one !
KNOW (see) what the next note is BEFORE you have to play it.
PLAY the next note 'on time' and 'in rhythm'.
Oh ya, watch the conductor - they set what is 'on time'.
