I doubt the brace is a distinctive enough feature to ID the horn but it's really interesting to see such an early photo of Fats Navarro. Do you have any info relating to it?

The Pan American I had cost me, used in 1959, one dollar. I'm sure Brownie wouldn't use his one. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

The one manufacturer that popped up in the 30's with that type of brace was the Pan American, but there may be others. Fortunately, he held the horn at an angle where the sun reflected directly, highlighting the brace. At that time, an accomplished sponge diver, probably not more than 14 - 15 years of age, ca. 1937. Searching that year and earlier, is how the 33 Frat model surfaced. . having an elliptical 180 degree brace.
Elkhart historians of that era, would do well to confirm.
A robust, healthy kid, without a doubt..
