I was thinking about this the other day and got curious. In your opinion/observation, what are the top 5 most popular trumpet mouthpiece brands? Not necessarily the best or your personal favorite, but the brands you see the most and hear the most about. I don't want to get too tweaky or specific (popular for jazz vs classical vs lead etc) just the most popular overall. |

I have found that the most popular mouthpieces today are Bach, GR, Monette, Curry and Warburton. |

These are the big 5 I was expecting. Glad to see I wasn't far off. Anyone else have a different experience? |

Hello all,
GR more popular than Schilke? If I were to think of all the HS kids in the nation, I would think yes Faxx then Bach and Schilke. _________________ Christian K. Peters

I agree that (great as they are) GR and Monette are both high-end products. They may be popular amongst professionals but when you factor in the massive number of students and less-serious players, I would imagine the more affordable, and indeed accessible, brands such as Schilke, Bach, Wick, Yamaha and Warburton are probably more popular.
All the best |

what I currently see in my neck of the woods:
Bach, Yamaha, Curry, Warburton and Pickett .. I don't recall ever seeing anyone use a Faxx . one more outlier beyond Schilke, Monette and GR would be Marcinkiewicz
I imagine that there are some regional variations-what the local pros use, recommend and what's available to try and buy. _________________ Freelance Performer/Educator

A lot of top notch brands not listed yet: Stork, Pickett, Hammond, Parke, Laskey, Josef Klier, ACB, Greg Black, Reeves, Denis Wick, though I guess that depends on what genre you gravitate towards and it's true they are less common. I'm being more "comprehensive" than popularity. Personally really want to try Frost, Pickett, Hammond, and some more GRs.
Bach, Curry, GR, Warburton, Schilke are all great too of course and yea more common it seems. They all have great mouthpieces for every genre. _________________ 1981 Bb Bach Stradivarius 37/25 ML raw - Laskey 60C

If somebody mentions the same five you are thinking of that will not say that you prove a fact with it.
To be (more) sure you should do a marketing research but then what? |

I checked on the web for mpc (mouthpiece chart comparison).
One of them made categories. Beginners, intermediates, etc.
In the first category, the Bach 7C was there.
Knowing that Dockshitser play this one, I think I will not take that for truth.
It's easy to select things and categorize them.
In this forum, someone write to stay away from Bach because it's bites the lower lip. He suggests to try Stork's mpc.
I picked up some Storks and Bach's mpc.
This is just me but the Storks and Bach's bite my lip after a long gig.
I returned to my favourite mpc, the Shires 1.5C.
So the most popular are Bach and Yamaha. _________________ Mendez, Nakariakov , Balsom and Helseth are my best. |
