This is a FWIIW coming from me post...

This popped into my head as a result of a FB dialog.

Thank you for that information, Nick. The following is on a Bb Bach Strad 37 and the pitches refer to Bb pitches.

When I'm playing muted (newer silent brass) which I do a lot of as I'm in a duplex and do some playing very early in the morning, the pedals pretty much "slot" in with the same fingerings as an octave higher -- all the way down to double pedal C (and to A below that which is as low as I can go -- though to call them notes is a stretch).

When playing open (without the mute), I tend to lip the pitches between pedal C and pedal F#. Things "slot" again when I get to pedal F with 1st valve then regular fingerings down to double pedal C (DPC). Below that I can lip or finger.

I think that playing with the mute has helped my non-muted pedal tones (as I never really went below pedal C), but I'm still working on them -- and I may use too much air on them as I seem to need to take a lot of breaths to play half-note arpeggios or slurred groupings from DPC though the rest of the pedals and into the "regular" registers.

Hey Nick,

Glad to see you posting again!

I'm going to suggest you consolidate these posts into a single thread, Nick's Tips or something, to make it easier to find and follow. I keep skimming and thinking "Wow, I need to check that out!" then lose sight and forget or don't find/see it again. TH's search function is in the dark ages, computer-wise, though Google helps. One thread to rule them all...

This is also exactly how I approach it but with one difference; I usually center the open pedal at B-flat. So I begin playing the pedals at B-flat Open.

There is no "double pedal" (or triple) as you explain.
