**TRUMPET** PARTS Stars and Stripes Forever needed

I'm looking to see if anyone has the original Sousa TRUMPET parts (not cornet) for Stars and Stripes? There is a cute little 1st and 2nd trumpet fanfare that Sousa wrote for the trio and all the current arrangements seem to have eliminated them (how does one edit Sousa and kill off trumpet parts...???).

If anyone here has access to the TRUMPET parts (original with the fanfare) and could scan them and email them to me I'd appreciate it.

Hi Stanton, I'm retired from one of the US Navy bands and also played in a couple USMC field bands and know and have played many times the parts you are talking about. Those parts should be on the old stock band arrangements. If you have a military base near you that has a band check with them. I know we did when I was in the 3rd Marine Division Band, but that was on Okinawa. Look up the 2nd Marine Air Wing Band at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point or the Band at Camp LeJune, NC. They may still have copies of the old arrangements and may be able to share some parts with. Let me know if you don't find any, I may be able to contact some Old Comrads.

Thanks for the offer Falado. Zaferis already sent me parts, but I thank you for your offer.

Can anyone offer a logical suggestion why some arrangers would elect to kill off the texture the trumpets provide in the trio? I think ignoring them does such a disservice to Sousa's genius.

I was just trying to find a nice sax quartet version of this song. I ended up transcribing it myself even though there are many version for free out there. What is there about the Sousa version that spoke to you, or is it just about honoring the history?

I think Sousa did not write this trumpet part in the original 1896 version; I think when he had to renew his own copyright in the 50's, he added the part. There was a time when copyrights would run out during the composer's lifetime, and they would write a slightly different version for sale, and try to kill off sales of the older version; Stravinsky's "Petrushka" is an example of this
