Appreciate some help here if you can I a Conn 28 a with a loose 2nd valve slide. its not so loose that it pops out ; but loose enough to vibrate in the lower register.
Tried switching it end for end, to no avail.
Anyone know how to tighten this up w/o going to a music repair store. As soon as i touch it, the vibration stops and i don't want to use a rubber band.
Thanks

Yes, DO NOT use rubber bands, but if you need something that is safe for the finish and the brass - Hair Elastics 40mm x 2mm - STRONG - REUSEABLE Clear by ElasticU -
are clear, very stretchable, and last a long time.
Heavy valve slide grease!
Ultra-Pure Heavy-is thick and sticky
I'm sure Hetman makes a thick lube, I just don't know the #
Moster Oil slide grease is pretty thick as well.
But why not take it to a repair tech for proper fitting? It's a pretty straight-ahead fix and shouldn't cost you a ton. _________________ Freelance Performer/Educator

In the interim, get a piece of 3M magic tape and tape the slide in place. I did this for a slide, and the tape solution worked for about 3 years... until I got some other work done as well.
cheers
